Maca For Sex: The Hype Is Real

maca

Have you heard of Maca? This wonder powder from South America has been used for centuries to increase sexual stamina and reproductive health.

Does it Actually Work?

The answer is yes. An increase in libido is reported sometimes immediately and other times it takes several weeks of consistent dosing. I’ve tried Maca as well. For me it seems to work immediately and many of my friends report the same.

Can It Help Me Get Pregnant?

Although there is little evidence that it can help you, many women are saying that they tried EVERYTHING and Maca is the only thing that worked. If you are trying to conceive with no luck, this seems like an amazing option.

How to Focus on One Thing at a Time WITHOUT Meds

Mental-Exhaustion

Text from your friend. Text from your wife. App alarm is going off. News, have to check the news. Call mom. Get oil change. Finish project. Deadline! Deadline! Deadline!

Deep breath.

Our brains are getting pulled in a million different directions and it makes it hard to focus on one thing at a time. A big problem to overcome is the screens in our life.  You know, the screens on your desk, in your hands and now on your wrist. How can you ever escape them?

distractions from focus

The problem isn’t really the screens though, it is the stimuli that is within them. It is the app notifications and loops that we train our brains to continuously run through, thinking they make our life easier. Your brain LOVES stimulation.

Society to Blame?

Unfortunately, society can not be blamed for your lack of productivity. Everyones brain needs to be worked out and trained. Either society is training your brain or you are. You must never forget one simple fact: You have complete control over your own brain… if you want to.

If you want to find out what modern entertainment is doing to your brain than read the book Hooked. It breaks down exactly how modern developers get your addicted to applications. Powerful knowledge.

Here’s How to Focus Without Meds

A great deal of focus is your environment or “productivity setup”. Many of us have surroundings that make it easy for us to jump from one thing to the next. Our brains love this novelty.

tabbed browsing kills focus

How many tabs do you have open? Most people hop from one thing to the next every minute and finishing is unbearable.

Become a Finisher

In order to become a finisher you must ask your self: What is the one most important thing to focus on right now?

Once you know the answer to this than you simply close out all tabs, applications or distractions and focus on that one thing. This is assuming your project is on a computer. It is very possible that you just want to focus on your kids without looking at the phone every 2 seconds. How do you do this? Leave your phone in another room, in the car or out of site. Take off your damn Apple Watch.

At first, your brain will hate you. It may even breakdown since it now has to deal with itself and not some endless loop an app runs it through all the time. After you go through the brain-hate phase, your brain will begin to love you once again. You will see people and talk to them. Your posture will get better. You will be a finisher.

Empty Your Brain

In the book Getting Things Done, David Allen talks about emptying everything into an inbox and then filing it appropriately. This is an important thing to do since there are thousands of thoughts hitting our brains every day. Some things sit up in the noggin for decades before we actually do anything with them. This stuff is so important to get out or it will weigh you down and actually cause disease.

After you read Getting Things Done you should try Toodledo. This is one of the best productivity applications i have come across and i have tried them all.

Simplify Your Life

Too often we complicate our lives by putting way too much on our plate. A lot times we start too many projects at once and our mind becomes exhausted. When the mind becomes exhausted or stressed it can be easy to turn to addictions that come in the form of medications, food, smoking and drinking. We are unconsciously killing ourselves because we no longer want to deal with the stress of doing so much.

Remember what i said earlier? You have complete control over your own brain… if you want to. This applies to your entire life. Cut out the garbage that you do not want. Sell or giveaway things that you do not use. Say no every once in a while. The book Essentialism as really helped me with this concept of simplification.

List out all the different projects that you are doing. Now, list them out in order of importance. Now eliminate anything that really is not essential.

A project does not have to be business related. It can be something with your family, friends, etc. Just by listing your activities out you will begin to take back control of your life. Control is the first step to focusing on one thing at a time.

Supplements to Focus

Once you get addicted to pharmaceuticals it is very hard to stop. The more stress you are taking on in your life the harder it is to avoid these drugs. I have always relied on a few supplements to gain a mental edge. Some people refer to such supplements as Nootropics. You need to be careful as everyones body reacts differently. You should consult a doctor before trying any of these.

How to Wake Up in the Morning Every Single Time

alarm-waking-up

Early last year i was going through a phase where i simply could not wake up. We all go through it from time to time. Previous to this phase i was waking up at 5AM every day. I knew i needed my mornings back but no matter what i tried nothing was working.

The most common thing people try is multiple alarms and the snooze functionality. With this method, your basically telling your brain that it is alright to ignore the first couple alarms because number three will go off ensuring you’re not late for work! I tried this method and it also did not work. So, what does work?

Step 1: Blackout Shades the Night Before

Our life in the 21st century has loads of artificial light. Those of us that live in cities or even close to a street light have to deal with this light shining in. Blackout shades will help block all of this unwanted light that is preventing you from a good night sleep.

Step 2: Light on a Switch

This is the big one! Put a light on a switch and place it across the room. Now, set the switch set to turn on at whatever time you wish to wake up. This simple idea really works, especially if you do step #1. These days my light wakes me up consistently before my phone alarm even goes off!

Step 3: Phone across the room using your favorite songs as Alarms

Do not sleep with your phone next to you or with in “grabbing” distance. Their are many reasons for this. The first is it will be harder for you to fall asleep if you are looking at your phone. The light from your phone really messes with your brain! The second reason is that in the morning you will be temped to press snooze over and over and over and over.

Now i also say to use your favorite song(s) as the alarm. I am not sure why more people don’t think of this. Who in the hell wants to hear the crappy alarm sounds they program in our devices? Some of these are so horrible they instantly put you back to sleep.

Step 4: Sense of Control and Motivation

why do you need to wake up?

Of course, the last and maybe the most important step is to know why you need to get up. I had a clear reason for getting up at 5AM. It was so i had time to meditate and read. These are two very important habits to me that i did not have the willpower to do after a long day of running my businesses. Why are you trying to get up at a certain time? Do you really need to? Unless you have a list of things engraved in your brain than you probably will not be able to do it – despite steps 1 through 3. In the book Smarter Faster Better by Charles Duhigg, the concept of having a sense of control to increase motivation is at the forefront.

Losing Weight: Separating Reality From Bullshit

Let’s face it, there is a lot of bad information on weight-loss out there. So many people are just posting things as click bait and not even thinking about what it might lead to.

google auto-suggest grapefruit

This is not to say that there isn’t good information our there as well, but filtering through the endless amount of garbage has become a daunting task!

First, if you are planning on losing weight that means you are going to be uncomfortable. You aren’t going to go on a milkshake diet or work at this only when you feel like it. Losing weight is a full time job. Even when you hit your goal weight you still have to maintain or you will balloon back your losses. Let’s start with what does not work.

The Bullshit

Any sort of Fruit Diet

As you can tell from the screen shot above,  I think fruit diets are largely bullshit. Not only do they pack loads of sugar (which slows your metabolism and promotes cancer) but they also make you feel like your on the right path, when you clearly are not. These types of diets exists so that you can type any food into google and make yourself feel good about eating it. Unfortunately, this is bullshit. Stay away from fruit.

Diets with Cheat Days

“But Tim Ferriss Said!”. Tim Ferriss is wrong. For most of us the days after a cheat day are absolute hell because of the cravings. Cravings are a son of a bitch. When you take a cheat day you spike your insulin and all sorts of horrible shit begins to happen in your body.

Extremist Religion-type diets (Keto, paleo, Crossfit, Bulletproof, etc)

I’ve had great success with the Keto diet. I do not recommend you do this to your body long term though unless you are getting your blood tested every 3-6 months. The bullshit about extremist type diets are that everyones body is different. There are certain constants but you really need to be careful before you shock the shit out of yourself. Know what i mean?

The Truth

Less Calories, specifically Carbs

You have heard it before and IT IS the truth. When you are taking less food in, specifically sugary foods, your body will reward you by shedding copious amounts of fat. Just staying under 75 carbs a day for most people will be completely life changing. It all depends on where you are at. Though i have friends who differ, i always count my carbs before i count my calories. Calories can be deceiving. For example, if you eat 3 sugar cookies every day and nothing else you may still put on weight.

Movement (Any Movement!)

Even walking is better than sitting on your ass! Let’s not forget about jumping jacks and jumping rope. These two can be a great cardio workout as well. There is a common mistake a lot of people make when trying to lose weight. They try to do a shit ton of cardio while eating like an absolute pig. Oh man, the toll this takes on your body! Don’t do it!!

Portion Control

Portion control = no bullshit. Tony Robbins use to say to “leave some on the plate”. I say only put a little bit on the plate that way you aren’t temped. If your going to a fancy restaurant, tell them to take back the bread. Bread is so good and way too tempting if you are trying to cut weight. Even if you have small portions for your meal, bread turns the actual amount of calories you are taking in into a huge amount!

Integrating Your New Eating Habits into your lifestyle

One of the hardest things that no fad diet site seems to mention is how hard it is to integrate into your lifestyle. Let’s face it – even though we love them, most of our friends and family eat horribly. When you are starting or maintaining your new eating habits you must be prepared for temptation!
